Graham Duncan, Barbara Jeppe, Leigh Voigt
Barbara Jeppe, botanical artist extraordinaire, conceived of this book way back in 1972 and with a monumental amount of work having been achieved, the book was still far from finished when she died in 1999. Her daughter, Leigh Voigt then took over and with the collaboration of Graham Duncan, curator of the indigenous bulb collection at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, after a further 17 years, this highly acclaimed book was eventually published in 2016. It includes all the known genera and species of Amaryllidaceae in the entire southern African region and is probably one of the most comprehensive books on a single-family in the botanical genre. The Amaryllis Family must be the most fascinating, most glamorous, and because of its extraordinary seasonal appearances, the most beguiling of everything that Mother Nature can muster. Ponder upon an apparently barren stretch of veld, which, after a sudden downpour of rain or ferocious fire, a single scarlet Cyrtanthus or swathe of beautiful pink Brunsvigia bosmaniae emerge.
The book was designed by Tersia van Rensen. Published under the imprint of Umdaus Press in 2016. The Foreword was written by J.P. Rourke. Hardcover with dust jacket. Printed by Tien Wah in Malaysia.
Comprises 260 full-page watercolour plates, and 144 colour photographs. 280 mm x 215 mm. 709 pages.
NOTE: NOT AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE OUTSIDE OF SOUTH AFRICA.
